Picture of The Day – The Largest PDQ in The World

BP Horse Thunder

Thunder Horse Production and Oil Drilling Facility With Crew Quarters (PDQ) semi-submersible drilling and production facility is located over the Mississippi Canyon Thunder Horse oil field (Block 778/822), in deep-water Gulf of Mexico, 150 miles (240 km) southeast of New Orleans, moored in waters of 1,840 metres (6,040 ft). This platform is about 50 percent larger than the next largest floating semi-submersible rig in the world. It can process 250,000 barrels of oil and 200 million cubic feet of natural gas per day – enough energy to provide for 6.5 million homes. It cost around $5 billion and was operational by June 2008.
